The RPQ is a very brief 10-item self-report questionnaire that can be used to measure general Reflective Capacity. There is also a 30-item extended version, the RPQ-E, that includes additional sub-scales: Confidence, Uncertainty/Stress, and Work Satisfaction.

The Reflective Practice Questionnaire

The RPQ is a brief 10-item self-report measure designed to assess reflective practice across diverse professional and educational contexts. The RPQ offers a practical way to evaluate how individuals process their experiences and translate them into improved practice. There is also an extended 30-item version, the RPQ-E, that alongside the reflective practice component includes additional sub-scales that are relevant for reflective practice: Confidence, Uncertainty/Stress, and Work Satisfaction.

The scale has demonstrated strong reliability and validity across international samples and has been used widely in health, education, psychology training, and other client-facing disciplines. Its concise format and broad applicability make it suitable for assessing reflective capacity in both research and applied settings, including professional development programs, supervision contexts, and organisational training initiatives.

The RPQ provides a structured yet accessible way to measure reflective practice, supporting both evaluation and the ongoing development of reflective skills in individuals and teams.

The RPQ is freely available for use with no formal permission required. â€‹
